MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING
WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT
October 18, 2016
Meeting was called to order by President Walt Waetjen at 7:00 pm at the library at West Geauga High School. Roll call was taken by clerk, Monica Gromek. Board members present: Ed Curtis, Don Drockton, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Bernie Mandel, Linda Palchick, and Walt Waetjen. Jason Abate was also present.
Walt Waetjen introduced our newest Board Member, Frank Formicelli, appointed from the WG School Board; appointment expires in April 2019. He is filling the term of Susan Ebersbacher. Frank and his wife are WG grads, and their 3 children attend WG schools.
The minutes for the September meeting were presented by clerk Monica Gromek. A revision was needed. Bernie Mandel motioned to accept the minutes as amended; Frank Formicelli seconded. Vote was taken: Ed, yes; Don, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; and Walt, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
The Treasurer’s report for September was distributed by treasurer, Ed Curtis. The September treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $13,912.37; Total disbursements: $20,314.49; Total deposits: $4,591.23; Unencumbered funds: $39,836.41; Encumbered funds: $600.00. Bernie Mandel motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Linda Palchick seconded. Vote was taken: Ed, yes; Don, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; and Walt, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Facilities – Linda Palchick
Soccer Club is this weekend. Rec Council 1 game this Saturday. October 30 all games are done. Question about wear spots in upper field. Jason Abate will aerate and plant grass now to fill in these areas over the winter. Walt Waetjen stated that our fields looked good all this year.
Maintenance – John Gromek
The new sign by Eagle Scout candidate Xavier Zup has been installed. Ed Curtis needs his bills to be submitted for payment. Rec Council tournament was held. One girl was hurt. The ambulance had to park on Rt. 306 to get her to the ambulance. Ed said an officer should be on duty to direct traffic next year, with Rec Council paying him.
John Gromek said all the minutes are up-to-date on the website. The new sign should be placed on the website. New pictures of Board members are needed also for the website.
Walt Waetjen sent an email to Rec. Council President Abby McCarthy requesting a meeting and is waiting for a response.
Robert Schwarz was present representing Kiwanis Club, as their chair for Special Projects. Playground improvement at The Commons is needed and Kiwanis is interested in helping the board with this project. The merry go round should be replaced. Rick Izant offered to help Robert with this project. A meeting with a playground engineer will help aid in planning. Possibly an expansion of the playground could be done. Rick is available to attend a Kiwanis meeting.
